Singapore Indoor Stadium, Sunday, August 22, 2010 — Singapore’s top female junior paddler Isabelle Li beat American Ariel Hsing three sets to one to stay alive in the girls’ table tennis singles competition.

Isabelle had lost her opening Round 2 match and needed a win to stay in the competition.

She conceded a tight first set 12-10 but finished the tie strongly, winning the next three sets in 5, 4 and 9 to put herself in a good position to qualify for the quarter-finals.

Isabelle will next face Croatian Mateja Jeger who had lost to Hsing 3-2 in her opening Round 2 match. They will play at 12 noon today.

In the boys’ competition, Clarence Chew lost 11-9, 8-11, 8-11, 11-5, 3-11 to Stefan Leitgeb, but with one win under his belt, will advance to the quarter-finals if he defeats Ojo Onaolapo in his final Round 2 game later today at 1pm.
