India, Saturday, October 9, 2010 — Singapore shooters have picked up another two medals at the 19th Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Gai Bin and Poh Lip Meng scored 1139 points to win the bronze in the 25m Centrefire Pistol (Pairs) event. The Indian pair of Vijay Kumar and Harpreet Singh won gold with a 1159-point total while Greg Yelavich and Alan Earle won silver with 1140.
Said Lip Meng: “The competition was very tough, especially from India. They had come very prepared for this competition.”
Jasmine Ser and Cheng Jian Huan put together a 790-point performance to win silver in the 10m Air Rifle (Pairs) event. Jian Huan shot 100-100-99-95 to accumulate 394 points while Jasmine shot 100-99-97-100 for a 396 total. The Malaysian pair of Nur Suryani Mohmaed Taibi (398) and Nur Ayuni Halim (395) won gold with a 793 total.
“I could have done much better but I have been having a cold. It really affected my performance and I am sure I could have done much better. This is why I took some time to finish off the last ten shots,” said Jian Huan.
Gai Bin also won another silver yesterday in the 10m Air Pistol event with a 676.2-point total. Gai Bin shot a 98-96-96-95-98-97 series to come in second behind Omkar Singh (681.8) of India.
In total, Gai Bin now has one gold, two silver and two bronze medals from the games.
In all, Singapore shooters have won a total of 10 medals (two gold, four silver and four bronze) at the games.
