India, Wednesday, October 13, 2010 — Gai Bin capped off his Commonwealth Games appearance with an individual gold in the 25m Standard Pistol event.
Gai Bin amassed 570 points to see off the challenge of Trinidad & Tobago’s Roger Daniel (563) and India’s Samaresh Jung (559). Singapore’s Poh Lip Meng finished fourth with 557 points.
“I have been waiting for an individual gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2010 since the first day of competition. I am thrilled that the medal finally arrived on the last day of competition and in my final event,” said Gai Bin, who is Singapore’s most medalled athlete at the games with three gold, two silver and two bronze medals.
Gai Bin’s achievements in India have also netted him $270,000 based on the Multi-Million Dollar Award Programme (MAP) administered by the Singapore National Olympic Council (SNOC).
“Our shooters have performed above themselves. It’s a superb performance by the team here as the competition has been world class. My heartiest congratulations to the team,” said Teo Ser Luck, the senior parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports.
