Marina Bay, Sunday, October 24, 2010 — Mok Ying Rong, 17, won the women’s under-25 category at the Nike City 10K in a time of 38 minutes 40 seconds.
Said the Raffles Institution student: “This is my first time participating in the race, and I am happy to finish it with my personal best time. The weather was great today, and it was nice to run alongside the scenery of Marina Bay while enjoying the entertainment along the race route.”
The fastest runner on the day was Thomas Kiprotich of Kenya who won the Men’s Open category in 30:44 while Anne Date won the Women’s Open in 36:39. Aaron Meng won the Men’s Under-25 category in 34:16.
There were concerns about the haze in the leadup to the race but the Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) dropped back into the “Good” range and so the race went ahead and an estimated 10,000 runners made the start line. 12,000 runners registered for the run.
Some runners reported logging 9.7km for the route on their personal pedometers while others mentioned that it was crowded during the run. The music bands proved a hit with some runners on the other hand and finishing the run at the Marina Bay Floating Platform was a novelty.
The Nanyang Technological University and Serangoon Junior College fielded the most number of runners in the Schools Challenge with 384 and 712 students respectively.
There was also an inter-city challenge incorporated into the race. The Singapore runners have been challenging their Kuala Lumpur neighbours to see which country can clock the highest collective mileage by October 31st. Singapore currently leads with 63,376km while KL has clocked only 39,145km. The city with the highest mileage recorded will receive a US$30,000 donation from Nike to its adopted charity.

There are a few errors in the article, 1st par Mok’s timing doesn’t tally with that of the results at the bottom.
and the whole Men’s Under 25 timing seems to be a copy of the Men’s Open
Thanks for catching the mistake about Mok’s timing.
As for the Men’s U-25 timing being a copy of the Men’s Open, the results are from the nike website.
Looks like they have made a mistake in the results they published.
