Petaling Jaya, Malaysia, Monday, October 25, 2010 — Singapore’s Marcus Phua, the reigning national squash champion, took time off his studies from the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) to become the first foreigner to win the Petaling Jaya Squash Open in the event’s 30 years history.
In winning the title, Marcus upset hot-favourite and top seed, Nafzahizam Adnan, 11-6, 13-12, 11-8 in the semi-final. Phua went on to beat Mohd Shahril Shaidan 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 11-6 to win the title.
Two other Singapore players, Samuel Kang and V. Rhamanan, finished fourth and sixth respectively.
Marcus did Singapore proud again by winning the PJ Open again and against the same highly-touted opponent from squash powerhouse, Malaysia.
Would be great if the story can be featured more prominently website.
