Republic Polytechnic Sports Complex, Monday, January 17, 2011 — Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) triumphed over Republic Polytechnic (RP) 4-2 in the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Girls’ Floorball Championship. This was the hosts third straight loss while SIM improved to two wins and one loss.
Both teams started defensively in the first 15 minutes but it was RP who scored their first goal three minutes in but SIM managed to level the score at 1-1 shortly after.
SIM scored another goal at 12:56 to lead 2-1 at the end of the first period.
The RP players stepped up the pressure on their opponents in the second period but the SIM players displayed good technical control over the ball and proceeded to score their third goal through their #51 who was assisted by their #18 for SIM to lead 3-1 at the end of the second period.
Holding a two-goal lead heading into the final period, SIM scored a fourth goal through their #25 whose shot from the left hand corner crept into the goal.
The RP players displayed some fighting spirit by giving it their all to the very end with an impressive goal by their #9 but SIM had done enough to seal the game 4-2. SIM will now face the National University of Singapore on Wednesday in their final game of the group stage.
“Halfway through the match, you could sense that morale was low. I gave them the perspective that whatever happens, play hard and make the best out of it,” said coach Jamie Chong of RP.
“Our players played much harder in the previous two games. Today, they failed to win any 50-50 balls. I guess they were tired and undeniably, morale was not high, seeing as we’ve lost (previously),” added coach Jamie.
“Lesson to take back is that preparation has to be conscientious and no last minute games. Constant, frequent training is needed,” he emphasised.
Republic Polytechnic will face Singapore Polytechnic on Wednesday, January 19.
“It will be our last game and yes, we need to beat them, to say that we have been playing some floorball these period of time. I don’t even expect a draw. The team will have to play harder and push themselves harder.”
