Republic Poly, Monday, February 28, 2011 — Victoria School’s very own Finnish player Riku punctuated his team’s win over Bedok South Secondary with a scintillating goal in the final period. His contribution was part of a comprehensive 14-6 Victoria win in their first match of the third round of the National B Division Boys’ Floorball Championship.
With his ice-hockey background, Riku had been to a number of schools in Singapore before finally settling in a school that offered floorball, a sport somewhat similar to his passion.
Victoria School started the game brightly by taking a 5-2 lead after the first period. However, Bedok South kept pace with last year’s finalist by scoring four goals in the second period, led by their combined school’s representative #12. The score was a respectable 9-6 in Victoria’s favour going into the final period.
It was in third period however, that the superior fitness of the Victoria boys showed. Running rings around the Bedok South defense, Victoria’s forwards put another five goals past the goalkeeper for a 14-6 victory.
With the win, Victoria School has put themselves in prime position to qualify for the semi-final where only the top two schools of the group qualify.
In another match within the same group, Catholic High came away 7-2 winners over Northbrooks Secondary in a physical game. Catholic High’s combined school’s representative Darrell Er scored a hattrick of goals in his team’s win.
In another group game, Northland Secondary edged out St Gabriel’s Sec 4-3.
Why is it that Victoria keep changing all their outfield players every few min?
Teams rotate their outfield players to ensure they are fresh. The amazing thing about the rotation of players in floorball is that the game time continues while they change, unlike other games where time stops for each change!
Tactics. ^^
Its like ice hockey 😀 Players are assigned to lines and they rotate accordingly
