Presbyterian High School, Thursday, March 24, 2011 — Presbyterian High came from behind to edge out Anderson 2-0 (27-25, 25-17) in their Group Y, Round Two match of the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship. With this win, Presbyterian High kept their hopes alive of qualifying for the semi-finals while Anderson, with two losses, are essentially out of the competition.

Anderson were initially in the lead, but Presbyterian High managed to close in after a hard fight and level at 16-16. Towards the final part of the set, Anderson seemed like they were going to clinch the set easily as they led 24-20. However, a dramatic turn of luck saw Presbyterian High come back into the game. A service error by Anderson, followed by a ‘double’ saw Presbyterian High within one point of Anderson.

The next rally was a hotly contested one as both teams sought to win the crucial point. Sarah Lew (Presbyterian High #4) brought the set into a deuce for the team as her tap to Anderson’s back court barely clipped the line. The set was subsequently tied at 25-25, before Presbyterian High gained the advantage after the Anderson #11’s spike went out of bounds. Jemima Koh (Presbyterian High #16) then fired off a service ace to win the set for the team.

The second set was a close encounter for the first half, but Presbyterian High soon pulled ahead to leave Anderson in their wake. Pua Lejie (Presbyterian High #18) scored several points for the team as she pumped several balls into Anderson’s court. A timeout by Anderson at the 15-9 mark was unable to stop Presbyterian High from charging ahead. With Presbyterian High leading 24-13, Anderson fought back, and held their opponents for four points before spiking out of bounds to gift Presbyterian High the win.

Presbyterian High will face Fairfield Methodist in a do-or-die match on Monday. Whoever emerges victorious will subsequently progress into the next round.
