Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Tuesday, April 19, 2011 — Defending champion Venuraam s/o Selvan of Victoria School (VS) won gold in the B Division Boys’ 2000m steeplechase at the 52nd National Inter-School Track and Field Championships. He came in with a time of 6 minutes, 32.43 seconds to better his previous year’s timing of 6 minutes 43.98 seconds.
Karthic Harish Ragupathy of St Joseph’s Institution, who finished fourth in last year’s race took second spot with a time of 6 minutes 43.48 seconds. Jonathan Tan from Raffles Institution took third place with a time of 6 minutes 52.39 seconds, an improvement from his sixth place finish last year.
This was the 16th time in the last 21 B Division steeplechase finals at the Inter-Schools meet that a Victoria School student has finished in at least the top three.
Venuraam’s time was a new personal best, and only Abdul Rahman, Narayan Paudel (VS record holder, 6:25.24) and Nigel Foo (B Division record holder, 6:11.2) have run faster in a span of 23 years at the Schools meet.
