Jalan Besar Stadium, Tuesday, May 03, 2011 — Tampines Rovers confirmed their place in the knock-out stage of the AFC Cup after goals from Ahmad Latiff and Shahdan Bin Sulaiman, and a brace by Aleksandar Duric gave the Stags a comfortable victory over Maldivian side Victory Sports Club.
Shahdan Bin Sulaiman (Rovers #10) opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a volley that found the bottom corner of the net.
Midfielder Ahmad Latiff (Rovers #7) then continued his goal-scoring form with a header one minute before the break to put the Stags up 2-0.
Little changed in the second half as the Stags continued to control possession, repeatedly testing Victory SC keeper Faisal (#18).
Aleksandar Duric (Rovers #9) slotted home the third after a second attempt at goal following a weak save by Faisal.
The game was wrapped up nine minutes from time with Duric netting his second of the night. A ground pass by Mohammad Imran Sahib (Rovers #11) across the goal evaded the Victory SC defense to find an unmarked Duric who calmly guided the ball into goal.
The win puts the Rovers level on points with group leaders Muang Thong United of Thailand, who they next face on May 10th in Nonthaburi.
