20 Street-Side Festivities

Rousing street-side festivities have also been planned at 20 locations along the running routes to enliven the atmosphere during the run and celebrate the event?s fun factor. Besides the usual favourites such as belly dancing, mobile cheer teams and various percussion performances, participants can look forward to three unique highlights this year.

For the first time, participants of the 21km AHM will be treated to an illuminated display that would light up their path, making their run in the early morning even more exciting and memorable. Rainbow-hued LED strip lights will set a glowing course over 350m for runners at Marina Barrage and Bay East at Gardens by the Bay just before dawn breaks. Lighted cones and giant 1.5m luminous kites will hover in the sky like lanterns when participants run past this magical strip of the route.

Along the 10km route, runners can expect to run through raised cheer posts along Marina Boulevard where teams of cheerleaders will strut around, cheering runners on. The SAFRA 5km Fun Run participants will get an added adrenaline-rush with jet- ski performances, giving participants good reason for taking their water breaks and for having their photographs taken at the Floating Platform against the Marina Bay skyline.

COL Lim commented: “Street-side festivities have always been a key highlight of the run each year and they are very well-received by runners. They help to generate more fun and colour, and encourage runners along the way. The inclusion of the illuminated night element, water display and raised cheer posts this year celebrates the development and vibrancy of the event around the Marina Bay and the passion of the many runners who race in the wee hours of the morning each year.”

New Category to Promote Father & Child Bonding

As part of SAFRA?s partnership with the Dads For Life movement, a new category at Singapore?s largest running event is introduced. Aimed at encouraging NSmen fathers to bond with their children, organisers have planned the inaugural Dads For Life 800m Father & Child Challenge where father-child teams will run side-by-side along a short 800m route with their arms strapped in unison. After the run, participants can proceed to the carnival area at the Padang to engage in a series of fun-filled bonding games.

COL Lim added: “This is an excellent opportunity for NSmen fathers to spend quality time with their children by doing something fun and healthy together. After a short 800m run, participants will play a series of games specially designed to get fathers and their children to work together as a team to clear each station.”

Once again, SAFRA members and their families can also participate in the SAFRA 5km Fun Run at a fee of only $10 through the special Family Package. This means that when SAFRA members register for the 5km Fun Run, their entire family can join in and run along with them for free.
