Republic Polytechnic, Thursday, June 30, 2011 — Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) began their 2011 C Division Rugby Championship campaign with a 82-6 win over Junyuan Secondary School.
Played in a light drizzle, ACS(I) were quick into their stride and ran in multiple tries during the first half to take a half time lead of 47-0. In the second half, ACS(I) used the opportunity to rest their regulars and blood their second team.
Some lack of discipline by the ACS(I) players saw them give away two penalties in front of the posts. Junyuan converted both penalties with aplomb and missed a chance to trim the lead further when they failed to convert a third penalty, this time further out to the sideline.
Determined to see the mercy rule applied, the ACS(I) team moved up a gear and quickly arrived at the magical 80 point number. In a game littered with controversial refereeing decisions, it was played in good spirits and sportsmanship.
