Anglo-Chinese School (Independent), Saturday, July 2, 2011 -– Singapore’s water polo team beat Indonesia 14-6 in their opening match of the 3rd ASEAN Schools Games.
Singapore got off to a good start, scoring their first goal after three minutes courtesy of Jin Lun (#10). Jeremy Yeo (#4) then brought the score to 2–0 moments later. The Indonesian side quickly responded through Indra Saputra (#2) but Singapore went on to score two more goals to finish off the first quarter leading 4-1.
Singapore errors in the second quarter allowed Indonesia to cut the deficit but our boys scored two more goals through Seh Woon (#6) and Churn Yi (#9) to lead 6-3 at half time.
Singapore scored four goals in the third quarter, only allowing Indonesia’s Zaenal Arifin (#2) to score a single goal for the team, to lead 10-4 at the end of the third.
In the final quarter, Indonesia managed to score two more goals but it was not enough to overcome Singapore’s advantage, allowing Singapore to take their first win of the tournament,.
Singapore will now face Malaysia for their second match on Sunday, 3rd July 2011.
