Ferrara, Italy, August 3-7, 2011 — Singapore finished third in both the men’s and women’s categoriest at the 2011 World Tchoukball Championships 2011.
The men’s national team defeated the reigning European champions Switzerland twice, once in the group stage to top the group, and then again in the 3rd/4th playoff.
Singapore lost only once in a narrow 52-55 defeat to hosts Italy.
Our women’s team created history by beating Austria, Germany and Italy B. This is the first time that Singapore have beaten a European team since competing internationally from 2007.
The women’s team lost narrowly to the Swiss in their last preliminary round game to finish second at the group stage. After losing to reigning world champions Chinese Taipei in the semi-final, Singapore beat Italy A to finish third.
There were a total of 14 men’s and 10 women’s teams from four continents that took part in the world championships. The next championship will be held in 2015.
The Singapore national teams will now focus their sffort on preparing for the 2012 Asia Pacific Tchoukball Championships, the 2013 World Games in Colombia where Tchoukball is a demonstration sport, and the 2013 SEA Games, where the sport may be included.
