Padang, Saturday, November 5, 2011 — Singapore whitewashed Indonesia 55-0 in the women’s semi-final of the Singapore Cricket Club’s International Rugby 7s Tournament. In the other semi-final, another Singapore team, Singapore Barbarians, scored a last-minute try to defeat Malaysia 10-5 to set up an all-Singapore final.
Singapore started off strongly and scored their first try within 40 seconds. Despite the Indonesians’ attempts, they were no match for the faster Singaporeans who led 22-0 at the break.
Singapore continued raking in the points in the second half while keeping a clean sheet to finish off 55-0 winners.
In a more evenly-matched second semi-final, the Barbarians had a tougher time against Malaysia. No one team could break through as they headed into the half-time break scoreless at 0-0.
Malaysia finally drew first blood in the second minute of the second half with a first try and were on their way to an upset only for Singapore to level the score at 5-5 two minutes later.
As the clock ticked down, the Singapore #18 intercepted a pass by Malaysia and successfully sprinted down the entire length of the field to score the winning try.
