Kartright Speedway, Sunday, November 20, 2011 — The final round of racing saw Jon Lee (Cadet), Amin Noorzilan (Junior), Thaddeus Lee (Senior), Eric Ho (Senior Master) and Anthony Seow (Senior Veteran) walk away as winners of their respective categories after the fifth and final round of the AutoInc Singapore Karting Championship 2011.
Senior Category racer Thaddeus Lee also set the record for the fastest lap for Round 5 at 33.779s while Manon Maistre won Round 5’s best presented award for her professionalism and performance on the tracks.
41 drivers competed during the final weekend to decide the national championship titles in their respective categories. Female driver Carrie Choy was a new competitor in the Master category and impressively manoeuvred her way around in both dry and tricky wet weather. She was placed fourth in the Master Category for Round 5 and will definitely be a face to look out for in next year’s championship.
For the Cadet category, Jon Lee of Drakar Racing finished first place once again with Williams Racing’s Javier Chng second, and Jon’s brother, Josh Lee, also with Drakar Racing, finishing in third.
In the Junior Category, Round 4 winner Amin Noorzilan continued his winning streak with the Drakar Racing team Amin had switched from Williams Racing back to his former team, Drakar Racing, after Round 3. Yeo Hong Yang was forced to retire from the race after an incident, leaving the second place spot for McElrea Racing’s female driver Gabriella Teo. Kartmaster’s Santosh Bala Kerisnan Thevar finished in third.
In the Senior Category, Drakar Racing’s Mohammad Nasri Naufal took first place, Williams Racing’s Ben Chen was second and Simon Racing’s Julien Fong clinched third. Saravanan Rajakumar had finished second but received a penalty for unsportsmanlike behaviour, which dropped him to fifth place in a post-race appeal made by one of the competitors.
In the Senior Master category, PDB Maddox’s Ong Kian Leong was top of the podium for the first time this season, with BMS Racing Team’s Team Boss Benjamin Goh and Paul Lee — father of Senior Category Overall Champion Thaddeus Lee — in second and third place respectively.
The final race for the Veteran category was not run due to worsening weather, and the final results were based on the races that ran earlier in the day. BMS Racing’s Anthony Seow took first place, YZF’s Kenny Yap was second and independent participant Jan Yap Onn Hoe, third.
The 2012 season of the SKC is scheduled to run from April to November next year.
