Jalan Besar Stadium, Saturday, November 19, 2011 — Home United FC beat Albirex Niigata (S) FC 1-0 with a Frederic Mendy extra-time goal to lift the RHB Singapore Cup.
Home United had two goals disallowed before sealing their fifth Singapore Cup win.
In the curtain raiser to the cup final, Etoile FC beat Hougang United FC 3-0 to win the third-place playoff which saw three red cards. Kamel Chaaouane, Fraklin Anzite and Theo Raymond scored for Etoile.
Plenty of chances were created in the first half but the defensive wall on either end of the pitch meant that both teams went into the break goalless.
The second half was no different either as the defenders had a good day at the office.
However, the introduction of Yasir Hanapi and Qiu Li in the 67th and 80th minute swung the match in Home’s favor but it was still not good enough to clinch the championship in regular time, with Frederic Mendy denied a goal when the referee ruled the ball had not crossed the line.
Mendy had the final say eventually in extra time when he scored in the 118th minute.
Home United are on course for a league and cup double after a six-year trophy drought.
