“Aiyoh! Pain! Pain!” LionsXII goalie Izwan Mahbud (not in picture) barely touched Mahmoud Ghadar but the Kelantan forward goes down in agony. (Photo 1 © Les Tan/Red Sports)
Jalan Besar Stadium, Tuesday, January 9, 2012 — The Singapore LionsXII lost 1-2 to Kelantan in their opening match of the Malaysian Super League (MSL).
The winning goal for Kelantan was a penalty scored by Mahmoud Ghadar.
Did Ghadar go down too easily? Was it a dive? Was the referee, Mohd Nafeez Bin Abdul Waha, fooled?
Have a look at the video from 1:36 onwards and make your judgement.
LionsXII goalie Izwan Mahbud put his right hand on the shoulder of Ghadar and the latter went flying. Perhaps Izwan should know better than to touch a professional footballer in his own penalty box.
Nowadays, professional footballers, for some reason, seem physically very weak, especially within penalty boxes. They seem to go down if you so much as sneeze on them.
Even more irritating, referee Nafeez was quite far away. Look at the video. He wasn’t even in the frame of the camera when Ghadar was supposedly fouled.
Where was he?
Were the LionsXII robbed of at least a draw?
