West Zone B Div Volleyball: Shuqun and Jurong start campaign on winning note

Hua Yi Secondary, Monday, January 16, 2011 — Defending champions Shuqun Secondary started their title defense on a high note as they saw off Pioneer Secondary 2-0 (25-4, 25-13) on the first day of competition in the West Zone B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.

2011 West Zone runners-up and defending national champions Jurong Secondary also got off to a good start, beating Hillgrove Secondary 2-0 (25-12, 25-6). Despite a shaky start which saw Hillgrove keep the scores close, Jurong managed to pull ahead via centre spiker Ong Qiuluan (#13). Using her 1.73m height to her advantage, she sent the ball over the block several times to score many points.

In an earlier group game, 2011 second runners-up Bukit Panjang Government High held off a resilient Unity Secondary before powering to a decisive victory in the second set.
