Kallang, Wednesday, January 25, 2012 — The traditional powerhouses dominated the opening matches of the South Zone B Division Netball Championship with impressive score lines.
Ang Mo Kio Secondary beat Guangyang Secondary 45-9 with superior speed and accuracy of passes, with the Ang Mo Kio GA (goal attack) making a comeback from injury.
Cedar Girls’ Secondary led from start to finish to beat CHIJ St Theresa’s Convent 44-6 while Raffles Girls’ School saw off Outram Secondary 48-5 with their versatility, height and experience across the court.
CHIJ Toa Payoh were their usual composed self with their perfect timing and passes on Court 4 as they beat Serangoon Garden Secondary 53-6.
The winning teams were the zone’s top four in 2011 and proved their prowess by keeping their opponents to just a single digit score.
St Joseph’s Institution (SJI) International made their South Zone debut on opening day. Accurate shooting from the SJI International goal shooter gave them a 23-15 win over Peirce Secondary.
Fairfield Methodist Secondary battled to a 25-9 win over Bishan Park Secondary with a stronger attack and a more consistent play.
On Court 3, Bukit Merah Secondary struggled with Chong Boon Secondary and lost 10-41. Bukit Merah have shown improvement since their netball CCA was formed a couple of years ago while Chong Boon possessed good height in both attack and defense, making them a formidable opponent.
Another relatively new team in South Zone, Holy Innocents’ High, were overpowered by the speed, decisive passing and sharp shooting of St Margaret’s Secondary. The game ended 34-6 in St Margaret’s favour.
