CCAB, Thursday, February 2, 2012 — Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) kicked off their National B Division Rugby Championship campaign with a 79-0 over Junyuan Secondary.
Both teams took to the wet field after a torrential downpour had delayed the start of the game. The wet and heavy conditions made ball handling difficult, and both sides struggled to find any rhythm in the opening minutes.
ACS(I) soon found their footing and raced to a half-time 41-0 lead.
In the second half, the main talking point was when the Junyuan #37 was shown a straight red card by the referee midway through the half after he was seen throwing a punch at ACS(I) flanker Isaiah Teh. The referee, after conferring with the touch judge, had no options but to give the player his marching orders.
Junyuang had otherwise given a good account of themselves in terms of commitment and effort. The sending off made the match even tougher for Junyuan and with a man down, they simply had no answer to the ACS(I) offence.
ACS(I) will play St Joseph’s Institution in their next game on Tuesday, February 7th while Junyuan will face St Andrew’s Secondary, also on the same day.
