West Zone B Division Volleyball: Shuqun to face Bukit Panjang in boys’ final

Choa Chua Kang Sports Hall, Monday, February 13, 2012 — Shuqun Secondary booked a final place in the West Zone B Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship after seeing off Clementi Town Secondary 2-0 (25-21, 25-18) in the semi-finals. Bukit Panjang Government High also earned a spot after beating Hwa Chong Institution 2-0 (25-18, 25-18) in the other semi-final.

From the start, West Zone defending champions Shuqun Secondary had to constantly play catchup. They fought hard throughout the set and eroded Clementi Town’s lead to level the score at 20-20. They subsequently turned the tables on Clementi Town and raced ahead to lead 24-21.

Shuqun’s setter then took the final point for the team with a dunk at the second touch.

It was a close second set as well with Clementi Town maintaining their lead. But it was a repeat of the first set as Shuqun closed in to tie the score 17-17 before racing ahead once again. Clementi Town had no answer to Shuqun’s attacks and saw their opponent seal the set 25-18.

In the second semi-final, Bukit Panjang constantly held off Hwa Chong’s advances to secure a 25-18 first set win.

Bukit Panjang raced ahead to lead 11-4 in the second and while Hwa Chong managed to close in, they could not turn the tables on Bukit Panjang. Eventually, they had to contend with watching Bukit Panjang take the set 25-18.

Shuqun will now play Bukit Panjang in the final on Friday, February 17th at Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall while Clementi Town will play Hwa Chong in the 3rd/4th placing match on Wednesday, February 15th.
