West Zone B Div Vball: Clementi Town beat Hwa Chong to finish 3rd

Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall, Thursday, February 16, 2012 — Clementi Town Secondary came back from one set down to see off Hwa Chong Institution 2-1 (19-25, 25-15, 25-12) at the 3rd/4th placing match at the West Zone B Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship.

Both teams were neck and neck from start as each tried to break the other’s defenses. Several times in the set, the score was tied, with Hwa Chong maintaining a slim upperhand over Clementi Town.

Towards the end of the first set, Hwa Chong managed to pull a fast one over Clementi Town and pulled ahead to lead 21-18, prompting a time out from Clementi Town. However, Clementi Town were unable to make a comeback as they saw Hwa Chong continue their scoring streak to win 25-19.

Things were very much different in the third set as Clementi Town took the upper hand. Soon, they managed a comfortable 14-8 lead over Hwa Chong, before pulling further ahead to lead 16-8.

Hwa Chong had no answer to Clementi Town’s attacks and had to watch on as Clementi Town sealed the set 25-15.

Clementi Town kept up their momentum in the third set and blitzed off to an early lead. Despite Hwa Chong’s attempts at breaking Clementi Town’s streak, they could not do much as Clementi Town went into the changeover leading 13-6.

Clementi Town continued their scoring streak and were soon leading 17-8. They further increased this lead to 23-12, before taking set point after an illegal attack by Hwa Chong. Clementi Town then sealed the match after seeing a spike by Hwa Chong go out of bounds.
