Republic Polytechnic, Monday, February 13, 2012 — Anglo-Chinese SChool (Independent) beat Pioneer Secondary 75-3 to chalk up their third straight win in the National B Division Rugby Championship.
With the dark skies threatening to open up, the match kicked off with Pioneer displaying good ball handling skills and a desire to attack. However it was ACS(I) who struck first in the 9th minute when quick hands saw them score in the left corner.
That opened the floodgates as ACS(I) attacked relentlessly. To their credit, Pioneer were awarded a penalty midway through the first half, which they converted sweetly.
ACS(I) led 36-3 at half time.
In the second half, the ACS(I) coach called upon his bench players. This was probably with half an eye on the tough fixtures in the coming week, in particular against Raffles Institution and Saint Andrew’s.
ACS(I) continued to pour forward and score at will. With five minutes left on the clock, Pioneer intercepted an ACS(I) pass on their 10 metre line, which then sparked a foot race as the Pioneer player streaked toward the opposing try line, only to be denied 2m out by a retreating ACS(I) back.
ACS(I) then had to do a spot of defending as Pioneer desperately attempted to breach the ACS(I) defence, but to no avail.
In other matches played this week, St Andrew’s beat Raffles Institution 22-10 while ACS (Barker Road) beat Junyuan Secondary 44-7.
