Choa Chu Kang, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 — Kang Yee Cher of Singapore Sports School won the C Division 100m final in a time of 12.18 seconds.
He was followed in second by schoolmate Muhammad Syazani in 12.24 while Jeremy Png of Catholic High was third in 12.26.
Yee Cher’s win was all the more remarkable because Syazani looked to have beaten the gun but the race carried on. Despite trailing by at least a metre and running third at the 50m mark, Yee Cher hauled in and beat Syazani at the finish line.
In the semi-finals on Friday, March 30th, Yee Cher had clocked the second fastest time with a 12.04. Syazani set the fastest time in the semi-finals with a 12.02 while Jeremy clocked 12.41 for the fifth fastest.
Sports School had three finalists on Tuesday. Joel Ho, who finished sixth in 12.44, was the third representative.
No athlete went under 12 seconds to seriously threaten the championship record of 11.29 which was set by Shahrir Mohd Anuar, then of Sports School, in 2007.
