Clementi Sports Hall, Friday, April 13, 2012 — West Zone champions Unity Secondary extended their unbeaten to 16 games after defeating Anglican High 60-54 in Round 2 of the National B Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Unity showed their dominance with a 13-7 first-quarter performance as Anglican High struggled with a poor shooting form. Anglican managed to regroup during the break to give Unity a hard time in the second quarter as their shots started falling their way to outscore Unity 18-13 in the quarter to trail Unity by just one-point (25-26) at the half-time break.
Unity regained their footing in the third quarter to extend their lead to eight points (42-34) at the end of the third quarter.
The game looked out of reach for Anglican but the East Zone runners-up sparked to life midway through the final quarter which caused Unity to panic. Anglican High came as close as one point in the closing stages of the game but Unity managed to hold off the late surge to win the game 60-54.
Delvin Goh (#14) was the main contributing factor for his team as he scored a team-high 14 points, with eight of those points from the free throw line.
Another notable standout from the game was the Anglican High #5 who scored 18 points which included two 3-pointers.
Unity now sit at the top of the group, ahead of North Vista on point difference. Unity have a +30 points difference while North Vista are +26. They will face each other in their final group match but both are ensured of a spot in the semi-finals regardless of the result.
