PESEB, Friday, April 20, 2012 — Anderson Junior College (AJC) denied St Andrew’s JC (SAJC) a spot in the second round when they beat the latter 2-0 (25-20, 25-18) in both team’s final Round One, Group D match at the National A Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.
Both teams had come into the match with a similar win-loss record (two wins, one loss) and the victor of the match would progress into the next round. SAJC took the early lead to pile pressure on AJC right at the start. AJC quickly recovered from their initial 6-2 deficit to eventually level 11-11.
It was a close fight as both teams were neck and neck. SAJC would pull ahead only for AJC to level back. At the 16-16 mark, AJC managed to turn the tables and led 20-18, prompting a timeout from SAJC. However, they could not break AJC’s momentum and watched on as their opponents took the set 25-20.
AJC’s momentum carried on into the second set as they led 5-1 at the start. They held on to a comfortable lead as SAJC had to play catchup. However, the lead suddenly changed hands midway into the game as SAJC tied the score 15-15 and then went ahead to lead 18-15.
SAJC were unfortunately able to progress ahead from there as AJC successfully broke their momentum. SAJC were continuously held at the 18-point mark as AJC levelled the score 18-18, before pulling ahead to win 25-18.
