PESEB, Friday, April 20, 2012 — Nanyang Junior College (NYJC) cruised to a 2-0 (25-10, 25-19) victory over Temasek JC (TJC) to top Group C in their Round One match at the National A Division Boys’ Volleyball Championship.
It was a close start to the match as both teams traded powerful blows. NYJC put up several firm blocks to deny TJC any chance at a kill on many occasions. NYJC quickly settled in and pulled away to establish a 16-7 lead. TJC had difficulty answering NYJC’s attacks and succumbed 25-10.
In the second set, TJC put up a strong fight right at the start as they took the lead. They were neck and neck before NYJC managed to pull back 5-5.
The teams edged ahead point for point with TJC breaking through NYJC’s defenses on several occasions. Midway through, NYJC muscled ahead to lead 10-16. A timeout by TJC at the 18-13 mark could not stop NYJC’s advances as the latter took the next point with a service ace.
TJC were not going down easy and fought back to close in, prompting NYJC to call a timeout at the 22-18 mark in a bid to stop their advances. They managed to reorganise and subsequently took the sett 25-19.
NYJC progress into the next round with a perfect win-loss record while TJC finish second in the group and will also qualify.
