Jurong Stadium, Tuesday, April 17. 2012 — In a pulsating, hard fought match, Queensway Secondary scored a late goal to edge Hong Kah Secondary 1-0 in the semi-final of the National B Division Girls’ Football Championship.
Sri Nursaiddah Saiful scored in the 85th minute to the delight of the Queensway faithful.
Hong Kah, in their first ever semi-final, were not overawed by the occasion despite the team being formed only in 2011.
Hong Kah employed a defensive 4-5-1 formation in order to counter Queensway’s attacking threat with Queensway’s national youth player and the tournament’s current top scorer, Sitianiawati Rosseilin, identified as a dangerous player by Hong Kah’s teacher-coach Mohammad Hafidz Azmin.
Lydia Ally of Hong Kah performed creditably in shutting out Sitianiawati through man-marking but Sri Nursaiddah’s goal five minutes from the end broke Hong Kah’s hearts.
In an earlier match, Woodlands Secondary School beat Siglap Secondary school 1-0 to qualify for the national schools championship final.
The final between Queensway and Woodlands will take place on Tuesday, April 24, at Choa Chu Kang Stadium.
The 3rd/4th placing match between Hong Kah and Siglap will take place at 3pm on the same day and the final will be held after that game.
