Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Thursday, April 5, 2012 – Rayhan Bin Fairuz led a 1-2-3 sweep by Singapore Sports School in the Boys’ C Division 200 metres final at the 53rd National Schools’ Track and Field Championships.

Rayhan finished first in a time of 23.97 seconds, with schoolmates Muhammad Shahrieza (24.24) and Muhammad Syazani (24.66) claiming the silver and bronze medals respectively. The championship record is 22.99 seconds, set in 2003 by Muhd Yusof Bin Azhari, then of St Joseph’s Institution. It is also the current national under-15 record.

The race went according to the form book. Rayhan, Shahrieza and Syazani were also ranked first, second and third, in that order, in the heats and semi-finals. Rayhan became the third consecutive runner to win this event in under 24 seconds. With the 400m title that he won on Tuesday, April 3rd, Rayhan mirrored Ong Sin Yao’s 2011 feat of achieving a 200m-400m double.

In fact, seven of the last 10 male runners winning the C Division 200m gold medal at these championships have also won a second individual gold medal. This trend is emphasized when the data is further extrapolated. 10 of the previous 15 and 14 of the last 20 such runners are double-gold medal winners.
