Republic Polytechnic, Friday, May 18, 2012 — Victoria Junior College (VJC) beat Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) 4-2 to confirm a semi-final place in the National A Division Boys’ Floorball Championship.

With the win, VJC sealed up second spot in Group B behind group winners, Temasek Junior College (TJC).

Both teams had a cagey start with misplaced passes but VJC settled in earlier thanks to an early goal by captain David Bin.

ACJC then responded with an equaliser before VJC went ahead thanks to their captain again. VJC led 2-1 at the end of the 1st period.

ACJC started the 2nd period with different tactics, launching high balls instead of playing along the flanks but that did not stop VJC from scoring another through Jarryl Chan to lead 3-1.

ACJC pulled a goal back to make it 3-2 but their hopes for an equaliser were dashed when VJC scored when ACJC substituted their goalkeeper to leave their net momentarily unguarded. VJC took advantage with Ryan Tan scoring into an empty net to make it 4-2.

ACJC captain Samuel Leow said: “I thought we really played well. Maybe once or twice we had careless mistakes and let in silly goals. But overall, I think my team did their best and I’m really proud of them.”

In a Group A game played on the same day, defending champions Meridian Junior College (MJC) beat Raffles Institution 2-0 to top the group.

VJC will take on MJC in the semi-finals on Monday, May 21, at Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall while TJC will play RI in the other semi-final. Game time is at 1:30pm.
