Choa Chu Kang Stadium, Tuesday, April 10, 2012 — Carys Hor of Nanyang Girls’ High won the B Division 800m final in a time of 2 minutes, 30.03 seconds at the 53rd National Schools Track and Field Championships.
The championship record is 2:20.02, and it was set by Chua Khai Leng, then of Singapore Sports School, in 2006.
Charlene Oh of CHIJ Secondary (Toa Payoh) was second in 2:30.67 while Farhana Bte Md Thair of Singapore Sports School was third in 2:34.79.
Tay Pei Ern of Cedar Girls’ Secondary pulled out from the middle of the pack to take the lead at the 300m mark. With just over 200m to go, Carys made her move, drawing level and pulling past Pei Ern.
In the meantime, Charlene and Farhana were making their move as well, accelerating past Pei Erin with about 150m to go. Charlene, running on the outside, dropped Farhana heading into the final stretch. All eyes were now on Charlene to see if she could catch Carys.
There was no catching Carys though, who maintained her speed and lead all the way to the finish line.
Nicole Lum of Sports School had a last burst at the finish and almost overtook her teammate Farhana for third. Pei Ern was fifth in 2:36.03.
