Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, June 25, 2012 — In a closely-fought match that could have gone either way at the end of the third quarter, Hillgrove Secondary outlasted Jurongville Secondary to claim a 37-32 victory in the West Zone C Division Basketball Championship.
Hillgrove led 11-5 at the end of the first quarter, but failed to score any points in the second quarter, allowing Jurongville to take a 15-11 lead into the half-time break.
The teams ended the third quarter tied at 20-20, with Javier Ang (#10) of Hillgrove instrumental in hauling his team back into contention.
Jurongville scored the first four points of the fourth quarter, but Hillgrove quickly seized the lead with two 2-point shots and a free throw. The teams continued to exchange the lead and the game was finally decided when Javier Ang (#10) showed some clutch shooting to score a sudden blitz of points and seal Jurongville’s fate.
Hillgrove will next play against Yuan Ching Secondary who lost their opening game 18-32 to Swiss Cottage Secondary. The game will take place on Wednesday, June 27th, at 3pm at Clementi Sports Hall.
Jurongville will be facing off against River Valley High at 4.15pm on the same day, also at Clementi Sports Hall.
