Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 — Jurong West Secondary overcame a determined Chua Chu Kang Secondary 56-40 in the fight for second spot in Group B.
Both teams needed a win to qualify for the second round of the West Zone C Division Basketball Championship, with each having already won three games and lost one.
Both teams looked evenly matched at the start, with Jurong West having a narrow lead of two points by the end of the first quarter.
Chua Chu Kang leveled the score at 14-14 with two successful free throws at the start of the second quarter through the game’s top scorer, Ho Jun Wey (#6), who put in 14 points in total.
Jun Wey added a 3-point shot to put Chua Chu Kang in the lead for the first time in the game in the third minute of the third quarter, but Jurong West quickly responded with a basket.
Jurong West began to pull away at that point. While Chua Chu Kang struggled offensively, Jurong West’s speed and accuracy were too strong for Choa Chu Kang to handle in the final two quarters, and they won with a score of 56-40.
Jurong West’s captain, Benjamin Ang (#15), was elated at his team’s performance and thought that they put in a lot of hard work.
Chua Chu Kang’s Captain, Lim Wang Quan (#8), thought his team tried their best and with the whole team moving onto the B Division next year, they hope that an improvement in their teamwork and skills will get them into the 2nd round.
