Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, July 10, 2012 — Hong Kah Secondary moved themselves off the bottom of their group table with a 25-22 defeat of Chestnut Drive Secondary in their final game of the West Zone C Division Basketball Championship.
Both teams were already out of the competition after losing all their Round 1 group games before this encounter.
Chestnut Drive, plagued by poor control of the ball, trailed Hong Kah for the whole duration of the game, but never gave up fighting back. It was in the last quarter that the team pulled together, scoring more in one quarter than they did for the other three combined.
Chestnut Drive’s Altreish (#6) had a game-high 12 points as his shots helped close the gap between his team and Hong Kah.
Time, however, was not on Chestnut Drive’s side and the last surge in scoring could not make up for the point difference as they went down 22-25.
Despite their loss, Chestnut Drive’s captain, Mingwei (#7), was happy with his team’s performance because they “did not lose by too much.”
Cliff Mak (#15), Hong Kah’s captain, was happy too that his team got a win on the final day of the championship for them. As five of Hong Kah’s players, including himself, move into the B Division, Cliff hopes that with his new team-mates, they would move into Round 2, as they had done when they played together in the C Division last year.
