PESEB, Wednesday, July 18, 2012 – Queensway Secondary earned their first win of Round 2 of the South Zone C Division Basketball Championship by beating Gan Eng Seng School 50-41.
The loss means that Gan Eng Seng have lost all their Round 2 games and bow out of the competition.
Queensway dominated the game from the start, winning the first quarter 14-9.
Gan Eng Seng suffered from a leaky defence which allowed Queensway to get close to the basket easily and catch rebounds. At the other end of the court, Gan Eng Seng struggled with their shooting accuracy.
Queensway kept up their performance to lead 27-20 at half time.
Queensway comfortably led the game, but Gan Eng Seng were no pushovers. Gan Eng Seng’s Harris Maung (#6) was not afraid to shoot from outside the circle, and he managed to sink three three-pointers. Tan Qi Shun (#9) was a constant menace to the Queensway defence, weaving in and out of the defence with ease.
Gan Eng Seng managed to win the final quarter 11-7, but it was not enough to avoid a 41-50 defeat to a superior Queensway side.
Queensway’s captain Hao Jun (#14) emerged as the top scorer with a game-high 21 points. Harris Maung (#6) was the top scorer for Gan Eng Seng. Together with his three-pointers, he scored a total of 16.
P.S.: Queensway lost their final group game 42-59 against Fairfield Methodist School to finish fourth in their group with a 1-3 win-loss record. Gan Eng Seng were last with an 0-4 record.
