Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall, Thursday, September 6, 2012 – Tampines West beat Changi Simei CSC Team A 2-0 in the Plate final of the Singapore National Games football masters’ final.

In the semi-finals, Changi Simei beat Jalan Kayu CSC 1-0 while Tampines West beat Chua Chu Kang B 2-0.

The men’s masters futsal tournament kicked off on Saturday, August 25th, 2012 and was run on a straight knockout format. Players are aged 40 and above and a match is split into two halves of 12 minutes each.

In the first semi-final match on Tuesday, September 4th, Changi Simei CSC took the lead in the 7th minute. A long kick-in by Mohd Jaya Bin Daud (#11) deep inside Changi Simei CSC Team A’s half was met with a glancing header by Rajesh Kudlur Onkaraiah (#2) that sailed into the top left corner, leaving S Sambathu (#1) with no chance at all.

At half-time, Changi Simei lead by 1-0.

In the second half, Tony Ong Kheng Teng (#2) had an excellent opportunity to equalise for Jalan Kayu but under pressure from Mohd Jaya Bin Daud (#11), he buckled.

Near the end of the game, Mustaffa Bin Muhamat Bakri (#12) of Jalan Kayu had a header was well saved by Rafinyi Bin Ahlias (#6). With that, Changi Simei held on for the win.

“My team’s teamwork was good and we had clear communication with each other. However, age is catching up and it is quite challenging to play an intense game of football. Nevertheless, we will still do our best and go out there to enjoy the game,” said Mohd Jaya Bin Daud (#11) of Changi Simei.

Jaya’s teammate, Wong Siew Faiy (#10), felt that the Singapore National Games has been a good platform for people like him to gather for fun and bond with each other over a game of football.

In the other semi-final match for the night, Tampines West beat Chua Chu Kang B 2-0. Mohd Affandie (#18) of Tampines West scored the opening goal in the 6th minute with a cool low shot into the bottom right corner.
