ITE College East (Simei), Saturday, February 2, 2013 — Dipna Lim-Prasad finished comfortably ahead of her competitors to win the 200m final in a time of 25.18 seconds at the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Track and Field Championships.

Dipna also set a new record for the 100m hurdles on the first day of the IVP championships, when she clocked 14.58 during the heats. The previous record was held by Ranjit Kaur of NUS who set a time of 15.20 in 1985. Dipna improved the mark to 14.56 in the final.

Runner-up Fiona Ng of the National University Singapore (NUS) came in at 26.32 followed by Habibah Najihahbi of Republic Polytechnic (RP) who stopped the clock at 26.37s. Dipna, who had a slow start, came back and led the last 50m.

Dipna said: “It wasn’t a very good race and I’m honestly not happy with the time. Hoping to do better in the upcoming races!”

When asked for the highlight of her race, Dipna laughed and shook her head.

“I doubt there is one, I did not have a good start really. Hopefully my other races will be much better!” said Dipna.

“I’ll see how things go, as I’m hoping to get as much as I can for my school. This is so especially in the relay team as we haven’t had many practices together and we still need to get used to each other.”

Silver medalist Fiona Ng thought she could have done better.

“It was okay, but I could have done better. I guess I was still a bit tired from the heats,” said Fiona.

“The highlight of the race for me is the final stretch where I gave it my all. It helped me keep my lead!” she added.

Today’s race was most likely the final race for Fiona Ng, who said that she would be taking a break for personal reasons.

Habibah of RP, who came in third, was happy with her race.

“The final was better and it made up for my heats which wasn’t so good,” said Habibah.

“Personally, the highlight of the race for me is the finals itself because I had such a short time to recover from the heats. So I’m pretty proud of myself!” she added with a smile.

When asked on any improvements or targets she had for herself, Habibah said: “I’ll be looking to focus on the 4x100m as well as 4x400m race later on.”
