Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, February 6, 2013 — Five teams remain unbeaten after the first round of the North Zone B Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Seng Kang Secondary, Presbyterian High, Yishun Secondary, Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary and North Vista Secondary cruised through the first round with comfortable wins to finish with identical 4-0 win-loss records.
Defending zonal champions North Vista stood out with two wins that hit 100 points. They beat Fuchun Secondary 104-11 and then followed that up with a 105-34 win over Chung Cheng High (Yishun).
Not surprisingly, North Vista scored the highest number of points of any team in the first round with 384 (96 points per game average).
Seng Kang had the best defensive record in Round 1, allowing only 89 points (22.25 points per game average).
Seng Kang find themselves in Group X for Round 2 with North Vista, with Deyi Secondary (3-1), Canberra Secondary (4-1), Naval Base Secondary (3-1) and Nan Chiau High (3-1) rounding up the group.
With North Vista the heavy favourite to win the group, it will be of greater interest to see who will finish second to qualify with North Vista for the semi-finals.
In Group Y, 2012 runners-up Presbyterian High are up against Ahmad Ibrahim, Yishun, Christ Church Secondary (4-1) and Woodlands Ring Secondary (3-1).
Of all the Group Y teams, Presbyterian High have the best record from the first round, outscoring their four opponents by a collective 307-90, the only other school apart from North Vista to hit 300 points in four games.
Presbyterian High’s biggest win in Round 1 was a 90-33 victory over Nan Chiau High. Nan Chiau High qualified for Round 2 in second place behind Presbyterian High in their Round 1 group.
On paper, Group Y looks intriguing with three teams — Presbyterian High, Ahmad Ibrahim, and Yishun — unbeaten after Round 1.
