Kenneth Tan, one of our older Red Crew, tweeted: “Not sure if it’s too late, but here’s wishing @redsports #legend @fivetwosix a very happy birthday! #respected #heroine”

It had slipped my mind.

Red Sports turned six on February 1st, 2013.

It has been six years of stories. All 6,439 of them.

I didn’t realise how tiring it was to run a news website until I started, but like some of the runs I’ve taken part in, once you start, you can’t stop, and just have to keep going. (Because people are waiting for you to finish.)

I’m grateful to all the crew, past and present, for helping me out along the way. Some have done a lot, some less, but together we’ve had a fun, at times, even exhilarating ride together.

Most importantly, we’ve become friends, with each other, and with the larger Singapore sports community.

One of the best things about being around for six years is that some of the Red Crew were featured on the site, or grew up reading it. (Which really makes me feel like an … uncle.)

We have written our stories with one mission in mind: to tell a Singapore story. We wanted to bring to light the vibrant and passionate world of Singapore sports, especially school sports.

We’ve not been able to cover a lot of what has been going on, but with the little we’ve been able to do, we hope that you, as an athlete, have been encouraged to run a little faster, jump a little further, and hit a little harder.

Whatever your sport, whatever your ability, play for yourself, play for pride, play for school, play for country.

Not everyone gets to wear the colours of their school or their country. It’s an honour, and also a privilege.

You only come this way but once, and Red Sports will remember with you.

Red Sports. Always Game.
