Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, April 24, 2013 — Dylan Koo of Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) broke two records when he won the boys’ C Division 100 metres butterfly final at the 54th National Schools Swimming Championships. The 13-year-old clocked a time of 57.15 seconds to break his own national under-14 mark of 57.30s. It also bettered national open record holder Joseph Schooling’s four-year-old meet record of 57.55s.
Dylan was the clear winner as he held a lead throughout the race, and touched home more than six seconds ahead of Donovan Lee of Raffles Institution, who finished in 1 minute 3.31 seconds. It was Dylan’s second individual gold medal of the championships. He had earlier won the 50m butterfly final in a new meet record and personal best.
Dylan commented: “I’m happy with this win. I had previously fallen ill with a fever and could not perform as well for the heats. This is one event that I did not prepare well for. I’m really happy that I outdid my personal best.”
In addition to the 100m butterfly, Dylan is also the national age group record holder in the 200m butterfly, as well as in the 200m and 400m individual medley.
Teammate Bryant Low took home the bronze medal with a time of 1:04.08.
