Clementi Sports Hall, Wednesday, July 17, 2013 — In dominating fashion, Greenridge Secondary defeated Crest Secondary 109–4 in Round 1 of the West Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
Greenridge utilized a half-court defensive press throughout the game, which visibly intimidated the inexperienced Crest squad. Greenridge’s defence paid off as they started the quarter on a 14–0 run. With seven minutes to play, Clinton Tan (#10) managed to sink a long range jumper to ice the run, drawing huge cheers from the Crest bench. The unrelenting Greenridge forced multiple turnovers and went on a 23–0 run to end the quarter 37–2.
The second quarter began with Lawson Goh (#6) dropping an open jumper to try to keep Crest in the game. Unfortunately, Lawson’s basket would be the final basket of the game for Crest.
Greenridge continued their onslaught, holding Crest scoreless and scoring 72 points through the remainder of the game. Greenridge emerged victors with a final score of 109–4.
Greenridge’s captain Garrick Peh (#15) commented: “This was an easy game but our team tried not to be complacent. We still have to get better as we missed quite a lot of open baskets.”
