Singapore, Wednesday, July 17, 2013 — The route for the Army Half Marathon remains unchanged for this year when runners are flagged off on September 1.
The Army Half Marathon is part of a larger event, the SAFRA Singapore Bay Run, which also includes a 10km and 5km race.
For the 10km runners, there is a slightly different route compared to last year. Instead of going up further to Republic Avenue following the Double Helix Bridge, this year’s race will see the 10km runners turning around into the F1 pit building.
All the runners will flag off at the Esplanade Bridge at staggered timings. The 21km and 10km competitive runners will start at 5.15am and 7am respectively. The 5km fun runners will then set off at 8am while the Father and Child participants will start at 9am. The finish point for all runners will be at the Padang.
The 21km route, which includes the Singapore flyer, Gardens by the Bay, the Marina Bay area and the Singapore Sports Hub, will see a wide array of street-side festivities. There will be percussion groups, fire twirlers and LED stilt walkers among the street-side performers.
As of July 17, about 30,000 have already signed up for the two competitive categories of 21km and 10km while around 5,000 have signed up for the 5km fun run.
