PESEB, Evans Road, Tuesday, July 23, 2013 – Regent Secondary beat Junyuan Secondary 45–5 to notch their second win in the bowl section of the National C Division Rugby Championship.
Regent led 12–0 at half time through two tries by Dylan Ho (#7) and Sophian Nur Hilmi bin Rhaimie (#17). Sophian’s try came after Junyuan made it all the way to the try line but just could not go over. Sophian picked up the ball and ran 80m to score and leave his opponents deflated.
Although Junyuan managed an unconverted try through Shafiq (#74) in the second half, Regent continued to dominate in the second half and piled on four more tries through Al-fian bin Abbas (#12), two from Muhammad Zuhairi bin Abdul Razak (#1), and another by Dylan.
Al-fian showed good kicking form, converting five out of seven attempts.
“I’m happy because the team has improved much more from the previous game in attacking and defending,” said Zuhairi.
On their first game against Montfort Secondary which they lost 26–19, Zuhairi added: “Montfort are the strongest opponents [in our group] and they were more prepared than us.”
Regent finish their preliminary round games with a record of two wins and one loss, and will now have to wait the outcome of the other group games to see if they make it to the bowl semi-finals.
