PESEB, Evans Road, Monday, July 22, 2013 – Saint Joseph’s Institution (SJI) beat rivals Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) 6–5 in the National C Division Rugby Championship.
For SJI, this was their third victory in a row while ACS (Barker) have lost two of their last three games.
Within five minutes of kickoff, SJI won a penalty and Ryan Leong made it 3–0 for SJI.
10 minutes later, SJI suffered a blow where their captain, Fabien Wee, was yellow carded.
ACS (Barker) dominated possession in the SJI territory but could not capitalize on it before half time.
ACS (Barker) continued pressuring SJI constantly in their own half but a few good kicks by the SJI flyhalf, Sean Joseph Shepherd, managed to release the pressure.
Going into the last quarter of the game, SJI won another penalty. Ryan Leong again successfully converted to give SJI a 6–0 lead.
In the closing moments of the game, the ACS (Barker) pressure became more intense as SJI defended with all they had. A scrappy penalty eventually led to the ACS (Barker) flanker scoring a try by the wings for his team to trail by one at 5–6. However, the ACS (Barker) number 8 missed his conversion by a fraction.
