Clementi Sports Hall, Tuesday, July 30, 2013 — River Valley High edged out New Town Secondary 37–32 in a close game in Round 2 of the West Zone C Division Boys’ Basketball Championship.
It was the third win in a row in the second round for River Valley High after their opening 71–33 defeat by Unity Secondary and they now have a 3–1 win-loss record. For New Town, it was their first loss after three straight wins and they drop to a 3–1 record.
Cai Yu Han (#11) of River Valley contributed to his team’s win by scoring a game-high 18 points while Patrick Low (#11) of New Town had a team-high 14.
River Valley trailed1 14–19 at half-time but turned it around in the third quarter with a 13–2 performance that saw them take a six-point, 27–21 lead into the final quarter.
New Town came back to outscore them 11–10 in the final quarter but it was not enough to stop River Valley from sewing up a five-point, 37–32 victory.
Both teams have a final game each but it is River Valley who look to have an easier time. Their final Round 2 game is against Dunearn who have a 0–4 record while New Town have to face Unity.
If River Valley wins and New Town loses, River Valley will enter the semi-finals along with Unity.
New Town will have to beat Unity to have any chance of qualifying for the semi-finals.
