Myanmar, Sunday, December 8, 2013 – Singapore were held to a 1–1 draw by 10-man Laos in their opening match of the 2013 South-East Asian (SEA) Games football tournament.
Saison Khounsamnan of Laos put his right boot into the thigh of Singapore’s Shahfiq Ghani in the 2nd minute and the referee showed him a straight red card.
Singapore then scored in the 26th minute after Zulfahmi Arifin found Sahil Suhaimi in the penalty box with a cross. Sahil did well to control and put the ball past the Laotian goalkeeper.
However, Singapore could not make their one-man advantage count and squandered chances in front of goal.
With five minutes left on the clock, Laotian substitute Khouanta Sivongthong climbed the highest to nod home a free kick past Izwan Mahbud in the Singapore goal.
Singapore next face Vietnam who beat Brunei 7–0 in their opening match.
