Singapore Basketball Centre, Wednesday, January 29, 2014 — Yishun Secondary dominated in the first half to defeat Nan Chiau High 55–41.
Leon Lee (Yishun #15) scored a game-high 13 points, while Brandon Ng (Nan Chiau #14) recorded a team-high 12 points.
Yishun executed good offensive and defensive plays to lead Nan Chiau 14–6 at the end of the first quarter.
Phyo Min Tun (Nan Chiau #15) rebounded well and was a shot-blocking threat in the paint. However, Nan Chiau High failed to convert most of their shot attempts. This allowed Yishun to gradually pull away with their aggressive offensive plays to lead 26–12 at the end of the first half.
The second half then commenced with Yishun executing a man-to-man defensive play, putting pressure on Nan Chiau. Benjamin Cheong (Yishun #11) and Leon (Yishun #15) had a couple of good rebounds but were inefficient due to a low conversion rate.
Nan Chiau turned the ball over on multiple occasions in the third quarter. They worked hard defensively to earn many fast breaks but could not convert. Nan Chiau trailed 45–19 by the end of the quarter.
In the final quarter, Ivan Wong (Nan Chiau #9) drove aggressively and dished out good passes to his open teammates. His teammate Brandon (Nan Chiau #14) stepped up his game in the final minutes, challenging his defenders in the paint. He contributed an impressive ten points in the final quarter alone. Nan Chiau went on a 22–10 scoring run but it was not enough as Yishun took home the 55–41 win.
Yishun captain Leon (#15) said, “I think we have to work on our defence. We were lost in the last quarter and our defence was not up to expectations. Offensively, I think we did what we were expected to do, as we had good team work and communication. I think we won as we managed to outrebound them.”
Nan Chiau High captain Ong Wei Xin (#10) said, “I think we did very badly for the first three quarters. Our coach told us that we lost to ourselves this season. We were prepared but did not execute plays well, which was a waste. But I do think we did a lot better today, and we fumbled less.”
