Bukit Merah Secondary School, Thursday, February 13, 2014 — St Margaret’s Secondary defeated Si Ling Secondary 19–1 in the National B Division Floorball Championship.
Alfie Kwa (St. Margaret’s #17) scored seven goals to lead all scorers, while Nur Afiqah (Si Ling #8) scored the lone consolation goal for her team.
St. Margaret’s exerted pressure on the Si Ling defence from the start. This gave Si Ling a lot of trouble, as they tried to keep the ball away from onrushing St Margaret’s players. The opening goal came courtesy of Michelle Goh (St. Margaret’s #26), who slotted the ball into the corner on the fast break. St. Margaret’s continued to pepper the Si Ling goal with shots, racking up goals. Si Ling managed to record a goal at the end of the period with a long-ranged attempt from Nur Afiqah (Si Ling #8).
St. Margaret’s showed disciplined ball movement in the second period, patiently passing around before exploiting open gaps to score. Si Ling’s keeper was unable to keep up, letting in eight goals in this period. Towards the end, St. Margaret’s substituted their keeper out and played a few minutes with an unguarded net. Despite this, Si Ling were still unable to score on them.
Si Ling looked fatigued throughout the third period as the stress from the continual defending became evident on their faces. St Margaret’s capitalised on this by rotating their lines, ensuring their players kept fresh. They continued their domination, sending another seven goals in this quarter. St. Margaret’s eventually emerged 19–1 victors, putting them joint-first in Group K along with Orchid Park Secondary.
