Clementi Sports Hall, Monday, February 24, 2014 — Bukit Panjang Government High posted its third consecutive win in the second round of the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship, beating River Valley High 63–36.
Jerald Goh (Bukit Panjang #13) had 20 points and Vignesh (Bukit Panjang #11) had 19 points for their team. Darren Leung (River Valley #8) paced his team with 14 points.
The win puts Bukit Panjang joint-first in Group Y with a 3–0 win–loss record, along with Unity Secondary. Their match up on February 28 looks to be the one that decides who finishes in the group and their semi-final matchups.
River Valley did well in the first quarter to zone out Vignesh (Bukit Panjang #11), blocking him out each time he got into the post. Despite this, Vignesh (Bukit Panjang #11) was able to make the most of his opportunities on fast breaks, scoring eight points.
The game was still close in the second quarter, as River Valley kept pace with each Bukit Panjang basket. Darren Leung (River Valley #8) did well to lead his team, scoring when needed.
The third quarter saw Bukit Panjang break the game open on the back of good defence. Jerald (Bukit Panjang #13) shouldered the scoring load in the quarter, making all his jumpers on his way to seven points in the period.
Desperation saw River Valley let the game slip away from them in the final quarter. Bad shot selection coupled with a porous transition defence gifted Bukit Panjang an easy opportunity to punish them. Bukit Panjang were able to seal the game with a 63–36 win, putting them one step closer towards qualifying for the semi-final.
